A simple way of visualizing complex data.
Conceptualized and designed a one-stop shop dashboard for IT Admins who had no available metrics or feedback when managing Promethean hardware, software and users.

My Roles
Lead designer
IT Admins manage a lot.
IT Admins had enough on their plates. I created these personas based on my research to better understand different kinds of IT Admin roles and how we could best meet their needs.
The goal.
This needed to be more than just a visually appealing dashboard.
An easily digestible way of visualizing data
Actionable items needed to be at the forefront
Nothing more, nothing less (everything added value and had a purpose)
Would make IT Admins’ jobs easier
Accessibility was non-negotiable (WCAG AA)
Consistent with the company’s existing but growing design system

Accessibility.
As part of the design team at Promethean, we were adamant that accessibility needed to be built in to the design system and in all products.
We worked with Level Access to create an inclusive, WCAG and ADA compliant experience.
Data visualization was a particular challenge but the entire dashboard was designed to be WCAG level AA.
The solution.
Devices, users and applications were organized in rows by statuses and corresponding usage/activity. Actionable items were prioritized and presented further at the top of the page so IT Admins would be presented with the most valuable information right away. IT Admins could get access to different parts of Admin Tools directly from this dashboard.
The dashboard was fully responsive. Based on user research, IT Admins are often on site in classrooms and between schools dealing with technical problems. It was important to create a fully responsive experience for users who needed to access information on the go.
Every experience was relevant to the user. The dashboard was designed using the existing design system and each card with graphs used different colour schemes for lightening cognitive load. This dashboard was customized for IT Admins with different permissions and roles, ensuring each user was only shown what was relevant to making their jobs easier.
There’s more.
